CAVALLERIA RUSTICANA & I PAGLIACCI
FRIDAY MARCH 13, 2009 8PM
AT BARDAVON
Teatro Lirico D’Europa delivers the
famous operatic double-bill, bringing
with it the intense drama, passionate
lyricism and ultimate tragedy of
obsessive love. Set in a Sicilian village on Easter Day, Mascagni’s “Cavalleria Rusticana” unleashes
a tale of adultery and betrayal that
can only bring revenge and death.
With all the irony of a play within a play, Leoncavallo’s “I Pagliacci” takes
infidelity off the stage of a troupe of
traveling actors and into their lives,
ending in murder and the creation of
the iconic melancholy clown.
